How to taste a cuban cigar.

Tasting a cigar is exactly like tasting a wine. You must see it, admire its color, smell it and finally taste it. At cigars you admire their look, you touch and sense their texture, you smell the good- looking wrapper, you admire its construction and finally you light it for tasting its flavors. However, like wine tasting, there are people that still not know how to do it. In the world of cigars there are beginners or new- smokers that have no idea how to taste a cigar, to feel its flavors. Usually, only those who have a wide experience can properly taste a cigar. But I know for sure that everyone wants to know how to taste and enjoy the delightful aromas from a cigar in the perfect place. Probably you don’t want to become a pro in cigars tasting because after all no one will pay you for this. However, you can do this for your own pleasure.

What do you need to do in order to taste a cigar?

In the first place you must admire its appearance. Most of Cuban cigars have a spectacular appearance, so just lay your eyes on it and check carefully each inch of the cigar. Look at its wrapper, at the tiny veins, admire the color and so on. Now, you must touch it. A cigar must be treated with delicacy, like you are treating your wife or lover. Put your fingers on it and slowly touch it to feel it’s fine and delicate texture.

Look at its construction. Check the wrapper, to see if it is properly wrapped. Look at the foot, cap and see if they look well- constructed. This way, you will be able to admire the work of torcedors, not just the cigar. Everyone knows that a well-constructed cigar will offer you a perfect draw and an even burn, so the construction is quite important.

Lighting is also a way of tasting a cigar. The ideal Cuban cigar should release a white colored ash all depend of the processes. If the ash of the cigar is of white color it means that the tobacco plant had grown in a rich and fertile soil. However, if the ash is grey it means that the soil lacked some nutriments.

The burn is also extremely important when going through the process of tasting a cigar. Every smoker is expecting a straight and even burn, but some people are not that lucky. If the torcedors had made a good job and the cigar is rolled perfectly you will have part of an even burn, without issues. Also, during the burn an experienced smoker and not only, will be able to feel all the flavors that lay within a cigar.

Smell and taste are the last factors that must be considered when tasting a cigar. Smell the cigar and feel the aroma of premium tobacco that is released by the wrapper. Also, the taste can pleasantly surprise you. Usually, in cigars you can find aromas of salt, sour, sweet and bitter.
