Not many people doubt that after-meal talk is one of the most sublime moments at dinner time. Especially when we have wallowed in exquisite delicacies prepared by a deluxe chef, and when we enjoy a Habano, the closing king in haute cuisine. But if some of the best premium cigars of the world are paired with wisdom and good taste, all senses are flooded with pleasure.
That’s the reason why the pairing between Habanos and Chivas Regal was so successful during the 5th Excelencias Gourmet International Gastronomic Seminar, Havana 2015, held at the Memories Miramar Hotel. The matching session was guided by prestigious habanosommelier Fernando Fernandez, who delivered an introductory talk before letting the tasting session begin. So, delegates and guests enjoyed the Partagás Series D No. 4 habano, labeled by the professor as a one-of-a-kind cigar.
“The quality of this habano is undeniable, it has character, the unmistakable mark of Partagás, but it carries its own character. We’re talking about a deluxe vitola that can be perfectly paired with Scotch whiskies and gets along well with Chivas Regal. Actually, it’s hard to find a good drink that cannot be in perfect harmony with this excellent cigar,” Fernando Fernandez said.
Since this is a strong-tasting habano, “the character of its blend can be identified in the first third, and that’s when spicy elements pop up, especially the taste of pepper and woody notes. The second third is enjoyed more calmly, paving the way for the last third that rounds out the experience,” the expert explained.
When he moved on to the tasting, Fernandez and the guests confirmed that Chivas 12 and 18 Years chosen for the occasion match perfectly with Partagás Series D No. 4.“An exquisite habano whose taste is worth the try,” the professor underlined.
